Recommendations · Sourcing · Produces companies
Pulls the top-ranked companies from one of your segmentations and feeds them into the workflow, best fit first. They are the same recommendations you see in Discovery.
When to use it
Use it when you have built a segmentation and want a workflow to act on its best companies. For example, every Monday, take up to 25 net new companies from Tier 1 and Tier 2 and send them to your CRM.
What it does
Each run reads the segmentation's ready recommendations from the top of the list, leaves out the companies you chose to skip, and brings in up to Number of companies of them as company records. Each company carries the standard company fields and a Recommendation score.
Companies in your CRM with a live deal are left out of recommendations. A deal opened since the last nightly rebuild may not be reflected until the next one.
When this is the first step, it always skips companies this workflow already completed, and any that are still in progress. Each run therefore moves further down the list instead of starting over.
While a newer set of recommendations is still building, the step uses the last ready set.
Configure it
Segmentation: the segmentation to draw from. It starts on your active segmentation. Only segmentations that have finished building are listed. The settings below it appear once that segmentation's recommendations are ready.
Segment: All segments, or one segment. The "Other" group is not offered.
Tiers: which tiers to keep. The options are Tier 1, 80+, Tier 2, 60+, Tier 3, 40+ and Tier 4, under 40. All four are kept until you change it, and you need at least one.
CRM status: All CRM statuses, Net new, No deal or Lost deal. Net new means the company is not in your connected CRM. No deal means it is in your CRM with no deal. Lost deal means its latest deal was lost more than six months ago.
Filters: narrow the pull with Add condition. Only four filters are available, and each one uses "is": Industries, Headquarter country, Company size and Latest funding round (USD).
Number of companies: how many companies to bring in per run. The default is 10 and the maximum is 10,000.
Skip companies: tick what to leave out.
- Already in leads and Already exported. Both start unticked. - Under From earlier runs of this workflow: Dropped and Failed. Both start ticked. Untick Failed if you want companies that failed on an earlier run to be tried again.
Use CRM status to skip companies already in your CRM. Net new only leaves out accounts in your CRM. When this is the first step, the note under the list repeats that the step always skips companies this workflow already completed, and any still in progress.
Outputs
Recommendation score: how strongly the company matches the segmentation, from 0 to 100. The tiers come from it. 80 and above is Tier 1, 60 to 79 is Tier 2, 40 to 59 is Tier 3, and under 40 is Tier 4.
The standard company fields, such as Company domain, Company name, Company size, Industries, HQ country and Revenue. Later steps can use any of them with @-mentions. See Reference earlier steps with @-mentions.
Cost
0.2 credits per company the step brings in. A run that brings in no companies costs nothing. See Credits in workflows.
If it fails or finds nothing
Recommendations are not ready. If the segmentation's recommendations are still building, or did not finish, the step's settings show "Recommendations are not ready" with an Open recommendations button. A scheduled run that starts too early tries again about 15 minutes later. A manual run asks you to try again.
No finished segmentation. If you have no segmentation that has finished building, the settings show "No active segmentation" with a Go to segmentation button. If you have none at all, the step is also flagged "Build a segmentation to use this step".
Segmentation or segment not available. If the segmentation is not ready, or the chosen segment is no longer in it, the step reports an error until you pick another. The segment box says "This segment is no longer available. Pick another."
Not enough credits. Nothing is brought in and nothing is charged. If this is the first step of a manual run, you see a "not enough credits" error. If a scheduled run or a mid-workflow step runs out, the workflow pauses and the records show as Blocked in Activity. They carry on once you add credits and resume. See Activate, pause, and run limits.
This step has no Continue anyway option.
Example
A workflow runs every Monday. Its first step is Recommendations, with Tiers set to Tier 1 and Tier 2, CRM status set to Net new, and Number of companies set to 25. The next step is Find buying committee, followed by Send people to CRM. The first Monday brings in the 25 best net new companies. Because completed companies are skipped, the second Monday brings in up to 25 more of the best companies it has not already handled.
Gotchas
Segmentation is not a self-serve add-on. If it is not on your plan, you can still add this step, but its settings show "Segmentation isn't on your plan yet" and a Contact us button. You cannot publish the workflow until it is turned on.
If you put this step after another step instead of first, it runs once for every record that reaches it. It ignores that record and pulls the same list each time, and every company it brings in is charged. Only Already in leads and Already exported are offered there.
The filters here are fewer than in Company search. Use Company search when you need hiring, technology or growth filters.
