Hiring Filter

The Hiring filter helps you find people who are publicly signaling that they're hiring for their team. It's a simple toggle in the People section of the filters panel.

How the Filter Works

When enabled, the filter returns only people whose LinkedIn profile shows the Hiring status, which LinkedIn users add to show they're recruiting for open roles.

The filter is based only on this profile status, not on what people write in their posts. Someone who posts about open positions but doesn't have the Hiring status on their profile won't appear in the results.

Each person can carry only one status at a time, either Hiring or Open to Work, based on the latest profile status we have. This means a person won't match both filters at once.

Hiring Filter vs. Job Postings Filter

These two filters answer different questions:

  • Hiring filter (People): finds individual people who have marked themselves as hiring on their LinkedIn profile.

  • Job Postings filter (Companies): finds companies based on their open job postings, broken down by department, seniority, and location.

If you want to find companies that are actively recruiting, use the Job Postings filter. Use the Hiring filter when you want to reach the specific people who are hiring.

When to Use This Filter

The Hiring filter is useful when you want to reach people who are actively growing their team, for example:

  • Recruiters and staffing agencies: reaching hiring managers who may need help filling roles.

  • HR tech and recruiting tools: finding people who are currently running hiring processes.

  • Growth-focused outreach: connecting with leaders whose teams are expanding, which often means new budget and needs.

Good to Know

  • Very small result sets: only a very small share of profiles carry the Hiring status, so expect few results, especially when combined with other filters.

  • Status changes: people turn the status on and off as their hiring needs change, and results reflect the latest status we have on record.

  • MCP: the filter also works through Ocean.io MCP, so you can use it from AI assistants like Claude or Cursor. See Using Ocean.io with AI Assistants (MCP).

  • Credits: loading results follows the standard credit rules. See Credits Explained.

Tips for Best Results

  • Keep your other filters broad, since this filter already narrows results significantly.

  • Combine it with Person Department or Seniority to focus on hiring managers in a specific function.

  • For larger lists, pair the Job Postings filter (to find companies hiring) with Job Title or Decision Maker (to find the right people there).

Summary

The Hiring filter is a simple toggle that finds people whose LinkedIn profile shows they're hiring. It uses the profile status only, not post content. To find companies with open roles, use the Job Postings filter instead.
