The Person Lookup Filter helps you find specific individuals by either entering their LinkedIn handle or searching by name and company name. These two approaches give you flexibility, but they are not equally reliable.
LinkedIn handles provide the highest level of accuracy, while name-based suggestions are helpful but broader.
⚠️ Note
This feature is not available during the trial period. It is only accessible on paid plans.
Two Ways to Find a Person
You can use the filter in one of the following ways:
Enter the LinkedIn handle
This is the most accurate method because each LinkedIn handle is unique.Type a name to use autocomplete
Autocomplete searches across first name, last name, and the company the person currently works at. It can return up to ten suggestions.
After selecting or entering the identifiers, Ocean will match them to the correct individual.
Using LinkedIn Handles
LinkedIn handles are the recommended option. Since every handle is unique, there are no duplicates. Even when multiple people share the same name, their LinkedIn URL path will always differ. Using handles prevents mismatches and ensures you are targeting the exact person.
You can add one or multiple handles. They can be:
Separated by commas
Added on separate lines
Handles are the best choice when precision matters or when working with common names.
Using Autocomplete
If you start typing a name instead of pasting a handle, the filter will show up to ten autocomplete suggestions. These suggestions are based on:
First name
Last name
Current company name
It is important to note that autocomplete suggestions are not aware of the filters you have already applied in your search. They are general matches and may include people outside your intended criteria.
To reduce the chance of selecting the wrong person, check both the name and company carefully. When possible, default to using the LinkedIn handle.
Tips for Best Results
Prefer LinkedIn handles whenever they are available.
When using autocomplete, always confirm that the name and company are correct.
For multiple handles, placing each on a new line keeps the filter clean and readable.
Be cautious if a name is common. In these cases, relying on a handle is strongly recommended.
