The Person Lookup filter helps you find specific individuals by their LinkedIn handle, LinkedIn profile URL, or by searching by name and company.
How It Works
After entering your identifiers, Ocean.io will match them to the correct individual in its database.
There are three ways to find a person, ordered by accuracy:
LinkedIn handle (e.g.
john-smith-123), most accurateLinkedIn profile URL (e.g.
linkedin.com/in/john-smith-123), most accurateName search, least accurate, may return multiple people with the same name
💡 Always use a LinkedIn handle or profile URL when precision matters. Both are unique identifiers, so there are no duplicates or mismatches.
Ways to Find a Person
1. LinkedIn Handle or Profile URL (Recommended)
💡 Unlike the Company Lookup filter, Person Lookup does not support CSV uploads. To add multiple people at once, paste their LinkedIn handles or profile URLs directly into the filter.
Since every LinkedIn handle and profile URL is unique, this method guarantees you're targeting the exact person, even when multiple people share the same name.
Paste one or multiple LinkedIn handles or profile URLs into the filter
Copy them directly from a spreadsheet (Excel or Google Sheets), text editor, or CSV column, Ocean.io will recognize the standard formatting automatically
Make sure your handles or URLs are at least comma-separated or on separate lines, entries all jumbled together without any separation will not be recognized correctly
Ocean.io automatically ignores any duplicates, so the same person will never appear twice in your results
⚠️ Note: The Person Lookup filter supports a maximum of 10,000 contacts at a time. Adding more than 10,000 will not return results beyond that limit.
⚠️ Your Upload is Not Saved Automatically
Your uploaded list stays available as long as you keep the tab open. However, we recommend saving your search using the Save option, that way you can reload it anytime with all your filters intact, without having to re-upload your list again.
2. Autocomplete (Name Search)
If you don't have a LinkedIn handle or profile URL, you can type a name instead. The filter will show up to 10 autocomplete suggestions based on:
First name
Last name
Current company name
⚠️ Important: Name search is the least precise method. There may be many people sharing the same name, and autocomplete suggestions are not aware of the other filters you have already applied. They are general matches and may include people outside your intended criteria. Always confirm both the name and company before selecting.
Include & Exclude
Just like with the Company Lookup filter, you can include or exclude individual contacts:
💡 When adding a contact you have two options:
Press Enter to include the contact in your search
Click Exclude to exclude the contact from your search
You can also include or exclude multiple contacts at once in bulk using the Exclude button. Ocean.io automatically ignores any duplicates, so the same person will never appear twice in your results.
What You Can Do with Person Lookup
Find contact emails and phone numbers, enrich your outreach with direct contact details
Discover the companies contacts work at, get a full picture of where your targets are based
Enrich existing contacts, fill in missing details and keep your data up to date
💡 Tip: Switch between the "People" and "Companies" tabs to either enrich the contacts themselves or view the companies they work at.
When to Use It
Targeting specific individuals, when you already know exactly who you want to reach
Enriching existing contact lists, upload your current contacts and fill in missing emails, phone numbers, or company details
Verifying and updating CRM data, make sure your contact information is accurate and current
Restrictions & Credits
Adding contacts to the filter is free
Person Lookup cannot initiate a lookalike search. To find similar contacts, use the Company Lookalikes filter instead
Loading a row costs 0.2 credits. Once loaded, you can export it or save it as a lead for free
