Aligning Sales and Marketing Leads

How can sales and marketing departments collaborate and compliment each other

Updated over a week ago

Sales and marketing teams have different functions within a company, but they share a common goal: to generate revenue. So why not streamline their outreach together?

By aligning on which leads to target, sales and marketing teams can optimize their efforts and resources. They can focus on leads that are more likely to convert into paying customers, rather than wasting time and resources on leads that are unlikely to buy.

What better way to replicate your past successes than to use a winning narrative and find lookalike companies to target in unison?

What do you mean by aligning sales and marketing?

Simply put - you use the same list of companies, and approach them from 2 sides.

Step 1 - Agree on the target

What should your joint target list look like? Agree on the audience as well as the messaging you are going to target them with, before you get started.

Step 2 - Collaborate to build lists

On Ocean.io, you can collaborate to build lists (learn how) and share them across the team.

Step 3 - Export and get to work

Next up, the real fun starts. Export the data to your preferred destination, roll up your sleeves and get to work. Read about the different ways to reach your audience below.

How to approach your target lists from 2 sides

Sales

  1. Get on the phones! Find phone numbers through Ocean.io, either on company- or contact level, and simply start dialing.

  2. Export the companies to upload them into LinkedIn Sales Navigator (learn how). When that's done, use LinkedIn's filters to narrow down your audience and start sending direct messages or add them to your network to commence the hunt.

  3. Perform a search inside Ocean.io to find the right people. Once found, verify their email addresses one by one (learn how). Send them an email directly to get in touch.

Marketing

  1. Upload the companies into LinkedIn Audiences (learn how), narrow down your audience by adding filters to job titles, and run a campaign to blast the agreed message proactively to your audience.

  2. Perform a search inside of Ocean.io to find the right people. Once found, bulk verify their email addresses (learn how). Export the contacts with verified email addresses and set up an automated or manual email flow to reach these people from a marketing email or sales reps' emails.
