Selecting The Right Topics For Intent

Note: Intent is an add-on. Contact your Customer Success Manager to get access.

To get off to a good start, selecting the right topics to monitor intent on is crucial.

The selection process will go down in three steps, under the guidance of your Customer Success Manager.

  1. Select your favourite topics

  2. Feedback from your CS manager

  3. Lock the topics down

1. Select your favourite topics

There are more than 10,000 available topics to choose from. You can find the list on Bombora’s website by scrolling to the bottom and clicking on “Full Topics List”.

As a rule of thumb, it is recommended that you pick topics within the following categories:

  • Brand name

    • Topics that are core to your business. Include your brand, products, services, and any key functions your business performs.

  • Competitor name

    • Names of your main partners and competitors. This could also include names of their specific products or services.

  • Product(s)

    • Your primary category/categories of business. Also list topics that are important to each of your key personas. This can include pain points, business issues or expected outcomes/results.

Below, you will find an imaginary example of the topics that Paypal would choose for two of their major service offerings: "Buy Now Pay Later" and "Happy Returns":

2. Feedback from your CS manager

In the second step, your CS manager will validate whether your use case aligns with the chosen topics and whether the topics yield good results. If you have not been able to find enough topics, they will be able to find similar topics for you.

Finding similar topics is done in the Bombora interface by your CS manager, by filling out the list of topics you have shown an interest in. Bombora will, in turn, suggest a list of similar topics according to their AI.

When ready, your CS manager will give you a final list of proposed topics for approval.

3. Lock the topics down

Once you are satisfied, giving the green light to your CS manager will lock the topics down in the platform. They will now show up in your Ocean.io account.

Once the topics are locked down, it is no longer possible to change them. Only for special cases, we can submit a request to Bombora’s team to request a change of topics. Read more about that process in this support article.
