September was a big month at Ocean.io.
We shipped improvements across Segmentation, Discovery, AI-powered signals, Search, Workflows, Ocean.io Chat, MCP, integrations, billing, usage and data quality.
Rather than giving you a technical list of releases, this update explains what actually changed, what it means, and how you can use it.
🎯 Segmentation & Discovery got a major upgrade
A lot happened around Segmentation during September.
The goal is simple: make it easier to understand what makes your best customers different and turn those insights into companies you can actually target.
✨ A redesigned Segmentation experience
Several parts of the Segmentation experience were redesigned during September, including the way you work with companies and edit your model.
The Edit Model experience was reworked to make reviewing and adjusting a Segmentation model easier.
The Segmentation interface also evolved toward clearer separation between:
Recommendations → Signals → Comparisons
That means less jumping around when you're trying to understand why Ocean.io considers a company or segment interesting.
🧭 Meet the improved Discovery experience
Segmentation and Discovery are now more closely connected.
Once your Segmentation has finished processing, Ocean.io can take you directly into Discovery, where you can start exploring the market based on what the model learned.
📊 Segments are easier to understand
The Discovery segment overview now presents segments as visual cards with statistics.
Segments are also sorted by their segment score by default, helping you quickly understand which groups are most relevant according to your model.
Instead of seeing a flat list of segments, you get a much clearer picture of where the strongest opportunities may sit.
🎯 Recommendations from your Segmentation
Ocean.io can generate ranked company recommendations from your Segmentation.
These recommendations help answer the natural next question after building a model:
“Okay, now which other companies should I be looking at?”
Recommendations can also be generated for Segmentations that don't already have a lead score.
🔎 Control the market you're exploring
You can apply market filters when working with Discovery.
Those filters can limit both:
TAM: the total addressable market represented by the segment
and
Recommendations: the companies Ocean.io recommends within that market.
This lets you combine what Ocean.io learned from your customers with practical targeting requirements such as the market you actually want to sell into.
🧩 Explore and add Signals in your Segments
Ocean.io now includes a Signals catalogue, giving you one place to explore the signals available for your models.
From the catalogue, you can browse available signals, search for a specific signal, and add the signals that are relevant to your model.
The selection experience was also improved during September to make finding and selecting signals more consistent with the filters used elsewhere in Ocean.io.
🌐 New signals derived from company websites
Ocean.io can now derive additional Product and Go-to-Market signals from company websites.
These signals use information found on a company's website to provide additional context about how the business operates, rather than relying only on traditional company attributes such as industry, location, or employee count.
Website Signals will also added to Ocean.io's search infrastructure, allowing them to be used when filtering companies.
💰 Funding raised can now be a signal
Funding raised was added as a lead-scoring signal.
That means funding information can contribute to the way companies are evaluated in a model.
For teams where recent or substantial funding can indicate purchasing capacity, growth or expansion, this gives Ocean.io another useful piece of context when evaluating companies.
💡 Why is this useful?
Traditional company databases often tell you things like:
Industry: Software
Employees: 51–200
Country: Denmark
Useful, but fairly broad.
A company's website can provide much richer context about what the business actually does and how it operates.
Website-derived signals give Ocean.io another source of information for understanding those differences.
🔎 Search became more precise
September also brought several improvements to both Company Search and People Search.
💼 Find companies based on who they're hiring
Ocean.io can break down company job postings by:
Department
and
Seniority
You can then use that information when filtering companies.
For example, instead of simply searching for:
SaaS companies with 50–500 employees
you can narrow the search toward companies that are actively hiring within a particular department or at a particular seniority level.
That gives hiring activity a much more useful role in prospecting.
👥 More precise People Search
People Search gained support for more granular sub-department filtering.
That means you can go beyond broad departments when looking for contacts and get closer to the specific function you're interested in.
Department filtering was also simplified so related department levels can be handled more consistently.
💼 Better job-posting intelligence
Hiring data became considerably more useful during September.
Company Quickview now includes a dedicated Jobs area.
From a company, you can inspect its current job postings without having to leave Ocean.io.
For companies with many open roles, job postings can also be searched and paginated.
💰 Salary information
Where available, salary information can also be displayed alongside job postings.
📊 Hiring by department and seniority
Ocean.io now derives job-posting statistics across dimensions such as department and seniority.
That helps turn a long list of vacancies into something much more useful:
Where is this company actually investing in people?
This can provide valuable context when researching an account.
🤖 Ocean.io Chat became much more capable
September also expanded what you can do through Ocean.io Chat.
Chat is increasingly connected to the rest of Ocean.io rather than functioning as a standalone search interface.
⚡ Create a Workflow from Chat
You can now use Chat to create a Workflow.
Instead of always starting from an empty Workflow builder, you can describe what you're trying to accomplish and use Chat as the starting point.
This continues the move toward using natural language to operate more of Ocean.io.
🧠 Ask Chat to explain a Workflow
Already have a published Workflow and aren't sure exactly what it's doing?
Chat can now explain the steps and logic of a published Workflow.
This is especially useful for larger Workflows where you want a quick explanation without manually inspecting every step.
📊 Check Workflow results through Chat
Chat can also retrieve the status and results of a Workflow run.
So questions about your automation don't necessarily require navigating through multiple screens.
You can ask Ocean.io about what's happening instead.
📧 Reveal contact information through Chat & MCP
Ocean.io Chat and connected MCP clients can now reveal email addresses and phone numbers.
That closes an important gap between:
Finding the right person → Researching them → Accessing their contact details
and allows more of that process to happen through AI-driven interactions.
💳 Credit note: Revealing contact information still follows the applicable Ocean.io credit rules.
🔌 MCP understands more about your Workflows
Ocean.io's MCP capabilities were expanded throughout September.
Workflow descriptions available through Chat/MCP can include more information about Search and Lookalike filters, helping AI clients better understand what a Workflow is actually configured to do.
This makes Ocean.io's data and automation capabilities easier to work with from supported AI clients.
⚡ Workflows got smarter
Workflows received a large number of improvements this month.
🔄 Turn a Search Step into Lookalike Search in Workflows
In the workflow editor, you can convert an existing Search step into its Lookalike Search counterpart while keeping the filters and connections you’ve already configured.
This helps you change your targeting to companies similar to your chosen customer examples without rebuilding the workflow.
To source companies from your segments, you can also use the Recommendations step and filter by segment and tier.
👥 More People data in Workflows
Workflow outputs can include a person's:
Department
Sub-department
This provides more context when downstream Workflow steps need to make decisions based on someone's role.
🎯 Work with Segmentation recommendations
Segmentation and Workflows now work more closely together.
Workflow steps can work with top Segmentation recommendations and apply filters around things such as:
Segments
Tiers
Company filters
This means Segmentation insights don't have to remain inside the Segmentation interface, they can become part of an automated process.
🧭 Easier first Workflow
The first-Workflow experience was also made more guided.
New users receive more assistance while building their first Workflow, and the onboarding checklist was shortened to make getting started easier.
After the guided build, Ocean.io can also surface additional things the Workflow could do.
🎯 Lead scoring became more useful
Lead-scoring development continued throughout September.
Alongside the new Signals experience, Ocean.io improved the way models and scores can be compared and understood.
📊 Compare model scores
Workspace model scores can be compared, helping you understand how companies perform across different models.
Company-centric model comparisons were also introduced.
This is useful when the same company may look very different depending on the ICP or market model you're evaluating it against.
🔥 See matched signals
Lead tables can show signals matched by an individual company.
So rather than only seeing that a company received a particular result, you get more context around the signals contributing to it.
🔌 CRM & integrations
There were also a number of improvements to CRM integrations throughout September.
Ocean.io continued improving its handling of CRM deals and deal stages, including work around Salesforce, HubSpot and Pipedrive.
📊 CRM outcomes in Segmentation
CRM outcome metrics for Segmentation were improved so they are calculated per company, rather than allowing multiple deals from the same company to distort the result.
That matters when you're using CRM history to understand what your successful customers have in common.
📊 Better visibility into your Ocean.io usage
The Usage area received some useful improvements too.
📅 Daily usage breakdown
Usage charts can now show a per-day breakdown when you hover over the chart.
The same daily information is available when exporting usage information to CSV.
That makes it easier to answer questions like:
“When did our team use these credits?”
rather than only seeing an overall total.
👥 Spent vs. Limit in User Management
Credit information in User Management is now separated into:
Spent — how much the user has consumed
Limit — the usage limit assigned to that user
This gives admins a clearer view of individual usage.
