🔗 CRM Integrations: More Control Over Your Data
Choose how Ocean.io updates existing CRM fields
One of October's biggest improvements is greater control over how Ocean.io writes data to your CRM.
You can now configure how individual fields should be updated when exporting or syncing records.
Three options are available:
Always overwrite: Ocean.io updates the field with the latest available value.
Write if empty: Ocean.io fills the field only when no value already exists.
Never write: Ocean.io leaves the existing field unchanged.
Example:
Imagine your sales team has manually updated a company's phone number or industry in Salesforce.
With Write if empty, Ocean.io can enrich missing information without replacing the values your team has already entered.
This helps keep CRM records enriched while protecting manually maintained data.
Ocean.io scoring information remains configured to stay current by default.
Export lead scores and segmentation insights directly to your CRM
You can now send additional context from Ocean.io searches and Discovery directly into your CRM, including:
Lead score
Segment
Segment score
Matched signals
Ocean.io automatically creates the required CRM fields.
Previously, transferring this information required additional workflow configuration and manually created fields.
Supported integrations: HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and Attio.
Smarter CRM record handling
We've also improved how records are created and updated:
Avoid creating duplicate company records.
Create one deal per company rather than separate deals for every contact.
Assign custom lead and account source values in Salesforce.
Add new Salesforce contacts to an existing account.
Identify unchanged records that don't need updating.
Credit improvement: CRM export records with nothing new to write are identified as unchanged and are not charged.
Clearer Salesforce export errors
When Salesforce duplicate rules prevent an export, Ocean.io now provides a more actionable explanation so you can understand what went wrong.
We've also improved compatibility with Salesforce State and Country picklists.
🎯Buying Committees: Find the Right Decision-Makers
Finding a company that fits your ideal customer profile is only half the challenge. You also need to identify the right people to contact.
October introduced major improvements to buying committees.
Build and customize your buying committee
Buying committees can now be managed in Context Studio.
Using your connected CRM data, Ocean.io can help identify the roles involved in your won and lost deals.
For each role, you can configure:
Role name
Seniority level
Business function
Importance
Up to five example job titles
Ocean.io uses the meaning behind job titles rather than relying exclusively on exact keyword matches.
For example, a Director of Accounting may match a finance leadership role even if that exact title wasn't entered.
Understand which roles influence your deals
Buying committee insights help you understand which roles appear in successful and unsuccessful deals.
This gives you more context for deciding who to prioritize when approaching similar companies.
See recommended contacts in Discovery
Discovery recommendations can display the top three people matching your buying committee for each company.
You can also see which roles they match and whether they're already in your CRM.
Find buying committee members with AI
You can ask Ocean.io's AI assistant questions such as:
"Who should I talk to at this company?"
The assistant can rank relevant people based on your configured buying committee.
This capability is also supported through Ocean.io's MCP connection.
Buying committee recommendations are part of the Segmentation offering. Contact visibility depends on your plan.
📊 Lead Scoring and Discovery: Better Targeting
Improved lead score distribution
We've refined the scoring system to make top-scoring companies easier to identify.
Companies that closely match your scoring model can now receive scores up to 100 and appear in Tier 1.
Previously, the highest tier could contain very few companies, making it harder to distinguish the best matches.
Create scoring models directly from Discovery
You can now create a scoring model from the Models tab, without navigating away to Context Studio.
This makes it easier to build, compare and refine different models.
Export scoring explanations to CSV
Discovery recommendation exports can include:
Ocean score
Lead score
Segment score
Segment
Matched signals
This helps explain why each company was recommended, even after you've exported your results.
The additional columns do not increase the CSV export's credit cost.
Explore your segments on a map
The Discovery segments map is now available to all organizations.
Select a segment to focus the map on the relevant companies and explore its associated deal information and win rate.
Better recommendation performance
We've improved how recommendations respond when you change scoring models or adjust score weighting.
We've also refined the way broader segments are searched to provide a more varied range of lookalike companies.
⚙️ Workflows: More Flexible Automation
October brought several improvements to the Workflow Builder.
Find buying committee members automatically
The Find Buying Committee workflow step can transform a list of companies into relevant decision-makers.
Contacts are ranked against your configured buying committee and can be passed into subsequent CRM or CSV export steps.
If no buying committee is configured, the step does not charge credits for that lookup.
Filter companies using buying signals
Company search steps in workflows now support buying signal filters.
This can help you identify companies based on signals such as hiring activity or leadership changes.
Buying signal information can also be included in company exports.
Find individual people by LinkedIn profile or email
People search steps can now look up a specific person using:
LinkedIn profile URL
Email address
These values can be supplied dynamically by earlier workflow steps or triggers.
Example: An inbound lead provides their email address. A workflow can use that email to locate the matching contact and send the result to your CRM.
Automatically revisit records
Workflows can now re-enter a completed record after a configurable number of days.
This supports recurring research and follow-up processes without requiring you to manually restart them.
Quarterly workflow schedules
In addition to existing scheduling options, workflows can now be scheduled to run quarterly.
More control over which records to skip
Instead of relying on a single Net New setting, workflows provide more specific exclusion options.
You can configure whether to skip records that are:
Already in your CRM
Already in Leads
Previously exported
Finished, dropped or failed in earlier workflow runs
Existing workflows retain their previous behavior unless changed.
Exclude accounts already owned by colleagues
Workflows can now avoid recommending accounts that another sales representative already owns.
For companies already in your CRM, the workflow can still identify new contacts instead of skipping the company entirely.
Send contacts to Salesforce campaigns
Workflow CRM actions can now add contacts directly to Salesforce campaigns.
Assign CRM owners automatically
Workflow exports support rule-based account ownership.
For example, you could distribute enterprise accounts between two account executives while assigning smaller accounts to another team member.
Contacts exported after a company can also inherit its newly assigned owner.
Rerun and clear workflow records
From the Activity tab, you can:
Select records to rerun.
Restart failed records from the step where they failed.
Clear completed records so they're eligible for another run.
Download reports containing selected records.
Additional workflow improvements
Manual workflow runs can request input values, such as a country, and reuse them in search steps.
AI research steps can return longer answers without failing because of response length.
Large email enrichment jobs are better able to retry failed checks.
Workflow completion statuses more accurately reflect when all records have finished.
Approval steps and review pages have received additional functionality.
Advanced workflow features and filters may require specific plan access.
🤖 AI Chat and MCP: More Ways to Work with Ocean.io
Save AI search results directly to Leads
You can now ask Ocean.io's assistant to save search results to a Leads list by name.
Instead of manually selecting rows from the search table, you can ask the assistant to save the results for you.
The saved list is then available in Leads.
Credits: Results already paid for during the chat search aren't charged again when saved.
Score companies through AI assistants
Ocean.io's MCP tools can read segments and evaluate lists of companies against your segmentation criteria.
The results can include explanations of why companies received their scores.
Buying signals through AI and API tools
Buying signal filtering is supported in:
Public API
MCP
AI Chat
This allows buying signals to be incorporated into automated searches and AI-assisted prospecting.
More efficient MCP sessions
We've improved MCP performance to reduce token consumption during assistant sessions.
Large lists can also be exported more efficiently.
Easier Claude connection
Ocean.io's MCP connection can be added through Claude's connector directory, simplifying setup for new users.
Improved experience
We've also introduced several smaller improvements:
Company and people searches default to Net New where applicable.
New chat conversations remain visible in the sidebar.
Improved loading and exporting of larger search result sets.
Better dark mode styling.
🧠 Context Studio: A Clearer View of Your Target Market
Business profiles now live in Context Studio
The business profile that describes what your company sells and who it sells to has moved from Settings into Context Studio.
You can review and edit your business profile directly in the new location.
Review AI-generated business profiles
Ocean.io can generate a draft business profile from your website.
You can now review the suggested information section by section before saving it.
This gives you more control over the context used for scoring and recommendations.
Understand how everything connects
Context Studio now includes an overview showing how these components work together:
Segmentations
Scoring models
Buying committees
The overview indicates the active segmentation and provides shortcuts for adding new components.
Archive completed segmentations
You can now archive a segmentation directly from its menu, making it easier to keep your workspace organized.
Improved scoring signal handling
We've refined how certain regional signals contribute to scoring.
For example, a company operating in multiple Nordic countries can match a Nordic region signal without receiving the same regional contribution multiple times.
🔍 Search: Improved Company and People Research
Buying signals in company quick view
Buying signals are now visible directly in the company quick-view panel.
This makes it easier to review relevant business activity while exploring search results.
Hiring and employment information
People search now displays additional indicators, including:
Open to work
Hiring
These indicators are available in people search columns and quick view.
More accurate CRM activity information
We've improved the way CRM activity filters use dates reported by your CRM.
Deal quick-view cards also provide more information about deal stage progress and recent activity.
Improved keyboard navigation
Search menus and filters are easier to operate using the keyboard.
This includes improvements to focus handling and navigation between controls.
Clearer CRM exclusion messages
If you attempt to apply a Not in CRM filter without a connected CRM, Ocean.io now explains why the filter cannot be evaluated.
🏷️Leads: Easier Organization
Update lead labels in bulk
You can now edit labels for multiple leads at once.
Labels support nine colors, helping teams organize their prospecting lists by campaign, priority or another internal classification.
Better connection between AI Assistant and Leads
With the new ability to save assistant results directly to named Leads lists, you can move more easily from research to organized follow-up.
🔐 Account Security and Login Improvements
Use an authenticator app for two-factor authentication
Ocean.io now supports authenticator apps as an alternative to email verification codes.
You can use an app such as:
Google Authenticator
1Password
During setup, Ocean.io provides 10 recovery codes.
Organizations enforcing two-factor authentication also support this method.
Improved signup verification
We've improved verification-code handling during signup, including support for resent codes and recovery when codes expire.
💳 Credits, Billing and Usage
Clearer credit information
We've improved how available credits and usage information are presented.
The usage page shows remaining credits alongside the relevant renewal or reset date.
The sidebar can also display available organization credits and applicable individual usage limits.
Usage information is accessible from Settings alongside Billing.
AI research usage-based credit charging
Workflow AI research is charged based on token consumption, rather than a fixed charge for every request.
This makes usage depend more directly on the amount of AI processing performed.
🗺️ Additional Improvements
Throughout October, we've continued improving the platform in smaller ways.
Chrome extension
Improved messaging when no matching company is found for the current website.
Workflow reliability
Better handling of workflow progress, approvals, retries and record completion.
CRM reliability
Improved export processing, field updates and duplicate-record handling.
Search and navigation
Continued improvements to interface interactions, search performance and filtering consistency.
