Person Lookalike Search: Find the Right People at the Right Companies

Person Lookalike Search helps you find professionals similar to your best contacts, people working in the same kind of role, at the same kind of company. Just paste a LinkedIn profile URL and let Ocean do the work. 🚀

What Is Person Lookalike Search? 💡

When you enter a LinkedIn profile URL, Ocean looks at the company behind that profile and finds similar companies using its context vector technology. It then surfaces people working in a department relevant to your reference contact's role.

The result: a list of high-fit prospects who work at the right kind of companies, in the right kind of roles.

A quick note on profile quality: each LinkedIn profile is different, even within the same company. A well-filled profile gives Ocean more to work with and leads to better results. If a profile has limited information, is set to private, or has very little content, results may be less accurate or return an error. For best results, choose references with complete, public LinkedIn profiles.

How to Use It

  1. Click the People tab at the top of the page

  2. Paste a LinkedIn profile URL into the Person Lookalikes filter

  3. Hit Search

Ocean instantly returns a list of matching professionals.

How Results Are Ordered 📊

Results are grouped by company, not mixed together.

  • All contacts from Company X appear first

  • Then all contacts from Company Y

  • Then Company Z, and so on

Within each company, contacts are ordered by seniority and relevance.

The order of companies reflects their lookalike relevance score, A-grade companies (strongest matches) always appear first.

Relevance Scoring (A / B / C) 🎯

Matches are graded A, B, or C (A = strongest). By default, results of C and above are shown.

Scores are calculated across multiple layers, context, industry, keywords, and more.

To adjust the minimum relevance, open the Advanced settings at the bottom of the Person Lookalikes filter and select A, B, or C under Min. relevance. Higher relevance means fewer but better-fit results.

You can also switch between Precise and Broad matching mode. Precise (default) uses the full company context for tighter results; Broad looks at industries only and returns more results.

Using Multiple Reference Profiles 🏢

You can add multiple LinkedIn profile URLs to your Person Lookalikes filter.

Ocean will find lookalikes for each reference and blend the results — scoring them across all inputs. One result might be most similar to your first reference, the next to your second, and so on.

For best results, use profiles that are similar to each other. If your references are very different in role or company type, your results will reflect that mix. For very different personas, we recommend opening a new tab and running a separate search.

Pro Tips 💡
